I’m saddened to hear that oil is still spewing into the Gulf of Mexico. There is no doubt that this is going to be the worst environmental disaster in history.

What really has me angry is that in the CNN news story I’ve linked to here spoke persons for BP are reported so: _ Suttles and Landry praised the clean-up efforts, however, in light of the failure of the “top kill” attempt to stop the flow.

“It’s a tribute to everybody that we only have 107 miles of shoreline oiled and only 32 acres of marsh,” Landry said._

But then just a paragraph or down in the story is the following nugget on information. _ “Government scientists on Thursday said as many as 19,000 barrels (798,000 gallons) of oil were spewing into the ocean every day, making this disaster perhaps twice the size of the Exxon Valdez incident.

Previously, BP officials and government scientists had said 5,000 barrels (210,000 gallons) of crude were flowing out daily.”_

Obviously these people are not good at math. If they were almost four times off in their estimate of how much oil is coming out of that pipe they are probably way fucking off in knowing how much of the shoreline has been contaminated. Plus oil is still gushing into the Gulf at close to 800,000 barrels a day.

Things live in the ocean you shitheads not just on the shore. Really the clean-up hasn’t even begun yet.

The immensity of this is too big for me to wrap my head around, the implications are horrendous and I think it will be years before we can fully comprehend how bad this really is.
